Eligibility & prescription

  • Anyone with a doctor's prescription. The top right of the prescription will show form Muster 56 or G850. Rehasport helps, for example, with joint, muscle and back problems, chronic illnesses, diseases of the inner organs or nerves, after surgery, or alongside cancer therapy. You do not need any prior experience; we adapt every exercise to your level.

  • No. You only need your approved prescription. Joining the club is not required. Many people stay on as members after their Rehasport so they can keep training, but you do not have to.

  • We offer Rehasport for problems with joints and muscles, for diseases of the inner organs, for nervous-system conditions, for cancer, and for respiratory illnesses. We do not offer cardiac sport in physician-supervised heart groups. Unsure whether your prescription fits our programme? Just give us a short call.

  • Physiotherapy is one-to-one treatment with a therapist, usually for only a few weeks. Rehasport is group training over several months, led by a trainer with a rehab qualification, and it is paid for by your health insurance. A gym is neither prescribed nor paid for by the insurer. Funktionstraining is similar to Rehasport but mainly aimed at rheumatic conditions. You can combine several of these in parallel.

  • Your GP, orthopaedist or specialist writes the prescription. You submit it to your health insurance, which approves it. Bring the approved prescription to your consultation with us.

  • After approval you usually have 6 months. You should start your Rehasport within those 6 months, otherwise the prescription expires and your doctor would have to issue a new one. Call us right after approval — that way we can reserve a suitable class for you.

  • No. Our trainers adapt every exercise to your level. Even people who have never done sport can start here.

  • Yes, that is exactly what Rehasport is for. Speak briefly to your doctor beforehand. Before the class, tell our trainers what is hurting. We will then adapt the exercises for you.

  • Our trainers speak German and basic English. You do not need perfect German, because we demonstrate every exercise and you simply follow along. Basic knowledge is usually enough. With no German at all it becomes difficult, because you need to understand our instructions about intensity and safety. If you are unsure, give us a call — we will work out together whether it will work for you.

Costs & insurance

  • Nothing, if you are publicly insured. Your health insurance pays everything once it has approved your prescription. In some cases accident insurance or the pension insurance pays instead. Either way, you pay nothing.

  • All statutory health insurances cover Rehasport once they have approved the prescription. Most private insurers and civil-service reimbursement schemes (Beihilfe) do too, though the exact amount depends on your plan.

  • If you are publicly insured, we bill your health insurance directly. You pay nothing up front. Privately insured people, civil servants with Beihilfe and some others sometimes pay us first and are reimbursed afterwards. Just talk to us; we will sort it out for you.

  • Your active prescription usually remains valid. Please let us know soon and tell us your new insurance. We will handle the billing side. Sometimes the new insurance needs a short confirmation; often the switch goes through without further steps.

Duration & flow

  • As a rule, you receive 50 sessions to use within 18 months. For cancer, nervous-system conditions and some chronic diagnoses, considerably more are possible. The exact number depends on your diagnosis, your prescription and your insurer.

  • One session lasts 45 minutes. You train in a group, led by a trainer with a Rehasport licence. Most people come once or twice a week.

  • We begin with a warm-up. Then come exercises for mobility, strength and coordination. At the end we stretch or relax. We use small equipment such as resistance bands, balls, dumbbells and mats. How demanding the exercises are depends on your diagnosis and the group.

  • Rehasport course: just the group training. Rehasport+: additionally equipment training with your own plan. Rehasport member: on top, full aktivita membership with every class, sauna.

  • No problem. You can use all your sessions within the approved period, which is usually 18 months. Occasional illness or holidays are already built in.

  • Yes. You can stop at any time, for example because you are moving or because you are ill for a longer period. Let us know briefly so we can free up your spot. Unused sessions expire. Are you only moving to another city? In that case you can continue using your prescription with another Rehasport provider there.

  • A change is possible when your daily routine shifts, for example because of a new job. Just let us know. Our system works with fixed groups at fixed times, so you cannot change every week.

  • Yes, in fact that is sensible. Rehasport is long-term group training; it does not replace one-to-one treatment with a therapist.

  • No, we have no summer break. Our studio is open all year round. Classes do not run on public holidays. If we also close on the day before or after, we will tell you in good time.

  • Many people choose to stay on, either as members of the club or with an aktivita membership. That way they keep the mobility they have built up, long-term.

  • Yes, that is possible. Your doctor writes a new prescription and the insurance approves it. For chronic conditions this is standard. Speak to us in good time before your current prescription ends so there is no gap.

In the class

  • Please bring comfortable sportswear, clean indoor shoes and a towel. On your first day, bring your approved prescription too.

  • Small groups, usually up to 15–20 people.

  • Our classes are led exclusively by trainers who hold a Rehasport licence, which they have to renew regularly. Our club is a member of the Landessportbund NRW and the Behinderten- und Reha-Sportverband NRW.

  • Yes. Changing rooms, showers and lockable lockers are available. Handy if you are coming straight from work.

Location & signup

  • Call us: 02381 28886. Together we will find a class that suits you and answer your questions. Bring your approved prescription to your consultation. We do not offer a trial class.

  • Our classes take place inside aktivita, Hafenstraße 12, 59067 Hamm, right by the central station. Bus stops are directly in front of the studio, and parking is also available.

  • We run classes Monday to Friday — mornings, midday, afternoons and evenings. On Monday, Wednesday and Thursday there are evening classes until 9pm. That way Rehasport also fits around work and family life. The current schedule is on this page.

Your prescription, explained

What the prescription says and what it means for you.

You are holding a form. The top right says Muster 56 or G850. We explain the most important lines here, so you know what we will be talking about when you first call.

Diagnosis.
Your doctor enters the diagnosis. For orthopaedic prescriptions it usually relates to the spine, a joint or a previous surgery. You and your doctor know the exact diagnosis. We only need it for billing your health insurance.
Therapy goal.
The doctor briefly describes what Rehasport should achieve. Usually it is about maintaining or rebuilding mobility and strength. The goal is deliberately broad. How we actually work in the class is decided by the trainers together with you on site.
Sessions and timeframe.
Orthopaedic prescriptions usually provide for 50 sessions spread across 18 months. Most of our participants come once or twice a week. If you fall ill or go on holiday, no session is lost as long as you stay within the timeframe.
Insurance approval.
The important signature comes from your health insurance. You submit the prescription, the insurer reviews it and sends it back approved. We can only bill once approval is in place. As a publicly insured person, you pay nothing.
How a session works

A Rehasport session with us.

One session lasts 45 minutes. You join a fixed group of 15 to 20 people. A trainer with a Rehasport licence leads the session.

  1. 1

    We start with a warm-up.

We begin every session with a gentle warm-up. The trainer uses this time to see how you are feeling today and adjusts the coming minutes to the group.

  2. 2

    Then comes the main work.

The room has small equipment ready: resistance bands, balls, light dumbbells, mats. How the group works with them is decided by the trainers based on how you are feeling that day. You do what is good for you. Nobody pushes you.

  3. 3

    We finish with a cool-down.

We close the session with stretching and relaxation. Most people leave the room feeling loose and warmed through.

What exactly you train is decided with you on site, not on this website. If you have acute pain or a new complaint, please have a quick word with the trainer before the class. We will adjust the programme so you do not have to sit out.
